Death of a star: Astronomers get grandstand view of supernova

great! not that i am happy about a star which had just died.. but a supernova in this century!! wow! quote from MSN news: "once-in-a-lifetime" stroke of luck!! indeed!! the star is NGC 2770, 90 million light years from Earth.. meaning, we had just received the light from the supernova after it had occurred million of years ago! this light had travelled so far to reach us that what we had seen is ancient history!
