♥ adam's curse

after nineteen minutes, it's adam's curse!

nothing that is misleading here.. "adam's curse" is just another book which i started before last semester and only continue after the semester.. it's another book after "seven daughters of eve" that professor sykes wrote.. i was so into mitochondrial eve that i think i would want to add y-chromosome adam into the whole picture of genetics.. the primary system that can reveal so much about our ancestors..

altruism for your own kind is not that great anymore.. it is not really sacrificing one self for the better of another.. "why?" you may ask.. simply because of selfish genes.. the fact that we are here is that we are part of the scheme of the survival of our species.. genes will want to exist in this world as long as possible, regardless of the process.. this is their ultimate objective.. this selfish gene theory can also used to explain one's selfishness when it comes to his survival.. not self defense, but rather for the genes..

for us, we have the X and Y chromosome system for determination of gender.. double X carriers are females while XY carriers are males.. it is the SRY gene on the Y that makes a person a man.. yet, we are actually females by default.. meaning, if there is a mutation on the SRY gene which makes it a nonsense sequence, even a XY carrier would develop into a female.. amazing right? but it does makes lots of sense.. if there is only one gender, it would be female.. you dont see male giving birth, right? so how can genes survive then?

stated by the book, men are undergoing the process of extinction.. i shant bore you with the details.. if you want to know, just give me a call.. if you dont have my number, then that's too bad, but you should know why.. but briefly, it is because of the very thing that makes them men that cause it.. the Y chromosome.. with all the radiation, pollution and blah blah blah, the Y chromosome is a hot spot for mutations.. by now, you should realise the real meaning of the book, adam's curse..

lifting the curse, as stated by prof sykes, would be to save the SRY gene.. if this gene can some how be transferred to one of the 23 pairs of chromosomes in the nucleus, it could be removed from the fate of mutations by shuffling among chromosomes by crossing over.. meaning even a double X carrier male would be produced.. cool, huh?

yet, i feel that the discovery of a new species and the extinction of another is just another cycle that keeps the world balance.. you cant have too many of the same kind at one time..

well, but the main idea is clear.. life science is just as cool as it is.. the study of life holds more wonders and miracles than we know..
